Intense World Theory: A new theory of autism

Intense World Theory is a theory of autism that has gained popularity over the last few years. This theory sees autism as stemming from oversensitivity to incoming stimuli, rather than from defects such as lack of empathy or an inability to understand other’s viewpoints often referred to as Theory of Mind.

 What is Asperger syndrome?

Asperger syndrome (also known as Asperger's) is a condition on the autistic spectrum. An autism spectrum disorder is a lifelong developmental condition that means we often have some difficulties with relationships, and communication, and that we think very differently to others. This can sometimes lead to problems understanding people, communicating effectively, especially non-verbally, and thinking flexibly.

Becoming an Asperger’s hero

My story is that of someone who received a very late diagnosis of Asperger syndrome in my early 50s. Having studied psychology at university and now teaching it and having helped students on the autistic spectrum you would think I would have recognised it. But no! It was really my wife’s insight that made me aware of it.

The aim of these articles on Asperger’s Heroes

My aim is to post articles here regularly discussing Asperger syndrome and how support such as personal development coaching can help adults with this condition. I will review some books on relevant subjects as well as drawing on insights from my own lived experience of Asperger's. It would also be great to include other people’s stories as we going along.
